Grilled New York Steak with Garlic Aioli

25 min

The grilled New York steak is a masterclass in rich flavors, with the savory beef complemented by the pungency of garlic and the tang of lemon. The aioli adds a smooth, creamy element that ties everything together.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds New York steak, trimmed of excess fat
  • 4 cloves garlic, peeled and chopped
  • 1/2 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup neutral oil, such as canola or grapeseed
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 4 slices of bread, for serving
  • Lettuce and tomato, for serving

Method

  1. 1Preheat the grill to high heat, around 450°F, and season the steak with salt and pepper on both sides.
  2. 2Grill the steak for 5-7 minutes per side, or until it reaches an internal temperature of 130°F for medium-rare.
  3. 3While the steak is cooking, roast the chopped garlic in the oven at 400°F for 15-20 minutes, or until deeply golden and fragrant.
  4. 4Allow the garlic to cool, then mash it into a smooth paste and mix with mayonnaise, lemon juice, and Dijon mustard to make the garlic aioli.
  5. 5Spread a layer of garlic aioli on each slice of bread, then top with a slice of the grilled steak.
  6. 6Serve the steak with lettuce, tomato, and additional aioli on the side, if desired.
  7. 7Let the steak rest for 5-10 minutes before slicing, to allow the juices to redistribute and the meat to stay tender.
