Grilled Chicken and Cheddar Burger

30 min

The grilled chicken patty is smothered in a gooey layer of cheddar cheese, complemented by the sweetness of caramelized onions and the savory flavor of Worcestershire sauce. It's a match made in heaven.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds boneless, skinless chicken breasts, finely chopped
  • 1/2 cup 80/20 ground cheddar cheese, crumbled
  • 1/4 cup finely chopped yellow onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 hamburger buns, toasted

Method

  1. 1Preheat the grill to medium-high heat, about 375°F, and oil the grates to prevent sticking.
  2. 2In a large bowl, combine the chopped chicken, crumbled cheese, chopped onion, minced garlic, Worcestershire sauce, smoked paprika, salt, and black pepper, mixing gently with your hands or a wooden spoon until just combined.
  3. 3Divide the mixture into 4 equal portions and shape each into a ball, then flatten slightly into patties about 3/4-inch thick.
  4. 4Brush the patties with a little oil and place them on the grill, searing for 5-6 minutes per side, or until they reach an internal temperature of 165°F.
  5. 5While the burgers are cooking, toast the buns on the grill or in a toaster, until lightly browned and fragrant.
  6. 6Assemble the burgers by spreading a toasted bun with your favorite condiments and toppings, then adding a cooked patty and any desired additional toppings.
  7. 7Serve immediately, while the cheese is still melted and the patty is hot and juicy.
