The spicy kick from the Gochujang and the savory flavor of the soy sauce make these steamed eggs a great breakfast option. The sesame oil and chopped onion add a nice aroma and texture.
Ingredients
2 tablespoons sesame oil, for brushing
1 small onion, finely chopped, for garnish
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons Gochujang
2 teaspoons soy sauce
2 teaspoons rice vinegar
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
4 large eggs
1/4 cup chopped scallions, for garnish
1/4 cup toasted sesame seeds, for garnish
Salt, to taste
Method
1Brush two small, identical ceramic bowls with sesame oil and set aside.
2In a small pan over medium heat, cook the chopped onion until translucent, about 5 minutes.
3Add the minced garlic to the pan and cook for 1 minute, until fragrant.
4In a medium bowl, whisk together Gochujang, soy sauce, rice vinegar, and black pepper.
5Add the cooked onion and garlic mixture to the bowl and whisk until combined.
6Crack 2 large eggs into each prepared ceramic bowl and pour the spice mixture over the eggs.
7Place the bowls in a large steamer basket and steam over boiling water for 8-10 minutes, or until the eggs are set to your desired doneness.
8Garnish with chopped scallions and toasted sesame seeds, and serve warm.
